About Us
The Mauritius Film Development Corporation is a statutory body operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Culture. Established in 1986, it serves as the national authority responsible for developing, promoting, and facilitating film and audiovisual production in Mauritius.
Since its creation, the Corporation has been dedicated to nurturing the local film industry while positioning Mauritius as a preferred destination for international filmmakers.
Its core objectives include:
- Importing, exporting, exhibiting, and producing films.
- Establishing relationships with foreign and international personsor bodies for the promotion of film-related activities.
- Organising, supporting and promoting film shows and festivals that cater to the cultural and linguistic needs of the Mauritian people.
- Providing assistance, financial or otherwise, as the Board may determine to individuals and organisations engaged in the production or exhibition of films.

Our Role
The Mauritius Film Development Corporation acts as the central facilitator and promoter of film and audiovisual activities in Mauritius. Through a collaborative and service-oriented approach, it ensures that filmmakers, both local and international, receive the guidance and support necessary to bring their creative visions to life.
The Corporation’s key functions include managing and authorising film shoots in Mauritius, empowering Mauritian filmmakers through workshops, masterclasses, and mentorship from leading global experts, showcasing Mauritius as a film-friendly destination at major international markets and festivals, and partnering with public and private stakeholders to strengthen the island’s creative economy and promote sustainable growth in the audiovisual sector.
