How to Apply for a Shooting Permit

Applicants are required to complete the Shooting Permit Application Form and submit all mandatory information as outlined below:

  1. Applicant and Company Details
    Provide the name and address of the production company, country of origin, name of the producer, and full contact details (telephone, mobile number, email address, and website). Where applicable, details of the local agent or representative in Mauritius must also be provided.
  2. Production Information
    Indicate the title of the production and its type (e.g. feature film, documentary, commercial, television programme, photographic shoot, etc.), and specify how the applicant became aware of the Mauritius Film Development Corporation (MFDC).
  3. Project Description
    Provide a brief description or synopsis of the production, including its duration, format, and intended mode of diffusion or distribution.
  4. Shooting Details
    Specify the proposed shooting period, filming locations (where applicable), the number of crew members, and the principal cast involved in the production.
  5. Budget Information
    Indicate the total production budget and the estimated expenditure to be incurred in Mauritius.
  6. Additional Requests or Comments
    Include any specific requests, comments, or questions relating to the proposed shoot.
  7. Declaration and Signature
    The applicant shall certify that all information provided is true and accurate and shall undertake to comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing film and audiovisual production in the Republic of Mauritius. The application form must be duly signed and dated.

Additional Requirements

  • Where the producer intends to import film or audiovisual equipment into Mauritius, an ATA Carnet must be provided, together with flight details and copies of passports of the relevant personnel.
  • Any filming involving the use of drones (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) is subject to the regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority, and applicants are required to contact the Civil Aviation Authority directly to obtain the necessary authorisations.

Once submitted, the application will be processed by MFDC and eventually a film shooting permit will be issued.  Applicants may be contacted for additional information before the shooting permit is issued.
